Rules of Play:

  1. Format is 3 on 3. Except for U9 which is full ice 4 on 4.

  2. 3 Goals limit per player per game.

  3. All games will be NO INTENTIONAL CONTACT

  4. All games will be two 24 minute running time periods (3 minute warm up and 1 minute halftime)

  5. All players must wear full protective hockey equipment.

  6. Face-offs will occur only at the beginning of each period and play does not stop for a puck hitting the netting, ceiling, speakers, etc… Play it. Faceoffs will only occur if a player is injured or the puck leaves play.

  7. When play is stopped due to the goalie controlling the puck, a whistle will signal the attacking players to vacate the zone. Once all attacking players have exited the blueline, the players may re-enter to resume play immediately. Attacking prematurely will result in a penalty for the offending team. When a goal is scored, all players must exit to the redline before attacking. Attacking prematurely will result in a penalty for the offending team.

  8. NO ICING. Offside are treated as delayed offside all players must exit the zone before attacking. Attacking prematurely will result in a penalty for the offending team. Except for U9 NO Icing or Offsides.

  9. Teams goalies start the game at the opposite end for the 1st period and switch ends for the 2nd

  10. Penalties will result in a penalty shot with all other players chasing the shooter and the puck continuing to be live after the penalty shot. All players must line up at the far blue line on one knees when the ref blows the whistle all players leave. If players leave early the shooting player will get another shot whether they have scored or not. Both will count. If the player scores attacking team must clear the zone to the redline, the the player doesn’t score the attacking team MUST clear to the blueline. Attacking prematurely will result in a penalty for the offending team.

  11. Minor Penalties: Tripping, interference, hooking, holding, slashing, cross checking, high sticking and too many men… ONE SHOT

  12. Major Penalties: Checking, boarding, slashing, roughing, spearing, high sticking, elbowing, cross-checking, etc… TWO SHOTS. When a major penalty is called, the offending player must leave the ice for the shots and shift.  The first shot is no chase.  Some penalties are listed in both areas and are left to the refs discretion as to how many shots.

  13. Match Penalties: Kicking, head contact, and intent to injure.

  14. When a player receives 4 minor penalties,  2 major penalties, or throws a punch – they are ejected for the remainder of that game. A referee, at his discretion, may eject a player from any game for misconduct or intent to injure.  The referee will report any ejections that warrant a further suspension.

  15. 3 pts for a regulation win, 2 points for shootout win, 1 point for shootout loss, 0 points for a regulation loss

  16. Tiebreakers for playoff seeding 1)Total Points   2) Head to Head    3) Most Wins  4) Least goals against   5) Team +/-   6) Most Goals Scored   7) Coin Toss

  17. There are no tie games!  In round robin there will be a sudden death shootout to determine winner.  In playoffs, there will be a 3-minute sudden death overtime.  If still tied after overtime, then sudden death shootout.  In shootouts, home team gets choice of shooting first or second.

  18. Metis Nation Cup has a zero tolerance policy on verbal or physical abuse to our referees.

  19. All players ejected from a game for a match penalty, misconduct or intent to injure are indefinitely suspended from the tournament.

 

Teams: 

  1. Only registered players on team rosters may play

  2. Each team will be composed of no more than 10 skaters and one (1) goalie. Except U9 which will be 12 skaters 1 goalie.

  3. Full rosters will be made of only registered Métis citizens.

  4. Each team will play with four (4) players on the ice – 3 skaters and a goalie. Except U9 (5) players on ice - 4 skaters 1 goalie

 

 Coaches Managers:

  1. Each Team will be provided a coach on the bench for all games.

  2. Coaches must sign the score sheet after the game on the agreed upon score.

  3. We keep the actual score on the scoreboard.

  4. All teams must be ready to play 15 minutes before scheduled time. Games could start up to 15 minutes earlier then scheduled time.

  5. All teams will be provided Teams Socks and Jersey for Game play which they can keep.

  6. Each Team will get a minimum of 4 games and the top 4 teams will play for Gold, Silver and Bronze.

  7. Awards to Division Champions will be provided immediately after Championship Game.
